Majnun is a unique VR experience that brings together contemporary dance and Arabic calligraphy as it retells an ancient, enduring love story. Transformed by the medium of Virtual Reality, the audience experiences the narrative as characters instrumental to it rather than mere spectators.
Believed to be the basis for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the legend of Layla and Majnun is a Middle-Eastern tale that has endured for centuries. When Qays falls in love with Layla, his love slowly drives him mad, and earns him the epithet “Majnun” (or “possessed”). His descent into madness is juxtaposed by the increasingly beautiful art he creates in a story of man’s longing, artistic brilliance and journey towards personal annihilation.
